Privacy Policy for CompareTxt

Effective date: September 20, 2026

CompareTxt ("the App") is a desktop application for comparing text files and folder structures side by side, developed by Manali ("we", "us", "our"). This Privacy Policy explains how the App handles your information.

Summary: CompareTxt does not collect, store, transmit, or share any personal data about you or your files. The Microsoft Store version does everything locally on your device and makes no network connections. The direct-download version (Windows and macOS, sold through Lemon Squeezy) makes two small, disclosed connections for licensing and update notices; see Section 9.

1. Information We Do Not Collect

We do not collect, transmit, or sell any personal information. Specifically, the App does not:

• Collect names, email addresses, or other personal identifiers.
• Require an account, sign-in, or registration.
• Use analytics, telemetry, tracking, advertising, or cookies.
• Send the contents of your files or folders anywhere.
• Connect to our servers or any third-party service to process your data.

2. How Your Files Are Handled

CompareTxt reads the files and folders you explicitly select so it can display and compare them. This processing happens entirely on your device, in memory. File contents are never uploaded, transmitted, or shared with us or any third party. When you use merge or copy operations, changes are written only to the local locations you choose.

3. Information Stored Locally on Your Device

To make the App work, CompareTxt saves a small amount of information locally on your computer only, which never leaves your device:

• Application preferences (for example, theme, scroll, and comparison settings).
• A recent-comparisons list containing the file and folder paths you have opened, so you can quickly reopen them.
• Direct-download version only: your license key and license status, stored encrypted using your operating system's secure storage (see Section 9).

This information is stored in your operating system's standard per-user application data location. You can clear it at any time by removing the App's recent history within the App or by uninstalling the App.

4. Permissions

The App accesses the local file system solely to open, compare, and (when you request) merge or copy the files and folders you select. It does not access files you have not chosen to open.

5. Data Sharing

Because we do not collect any data from the App, we have no data to share, sell, or disclose to third parties, advertisers, or analytics providers. The services used by the direct-download version are described in Section 9.

6. Children's Privacy

CompareTxt does not collect any personal information from anyone, including children under the age of 13.

7. Security

Since your data never leaves your device, your file contents and comparison history remain under your control and subject to your own device's security.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date.

9. Direct-Download Version (Windows and macOS)

If you bought CompareTxt from our website through Lemon Squeezy, the App also works as described below. The Microsoft Store version does none of this.

• Purchase. Lemon Squeezy acts as the seller of record and collects the details needed to process your order under its own privacy policy. We receive order information (such as your name, email address, and country) so we can issue your license key and provide support.
• License activation and checks. When you enter your license key, and about once a week afterwards, the App sends your license key and a device label (the platform plus a short random code, for example "CompareTxt Windows 7F3A") to Lemon Squeezy's license service to confirm your license. It does not send your computer name, user name, files, or usage information. The license key is stored on your device encrypted with your operating system's secure storage.
• Update notice. About once a day the App requests a small public file from comparetextfile.com to see whether a newer version exists. This request contains no license key, device label, or other identifier; as with any web request, the website host can see your IP address. You can turn this off under Help > Check for Updates Automatically.

Nothing else is transmitted. The App uses no analytics or telemetry, and the contents of your files never leave your device.
